Two things excited me about today's post (Day 5 of the 12 days of design). One is the use of classic/antique furniture with modern decor, and the other is the link between fashion and home decor. I'm a big fan of mixing vintage pieces of furniture with contemporary items and I practise this in my own home, and I think, for someone who's very much into modern design, and not so knowledgeable with antiques this is a stylish way of decorating!
A few days ago I was having a chat with a friend who's a clothing designer about how designers are linking runway fashion with home decor lately. It's about time, I say :-)
So, on that note I will also share an article about mixing vintage and new furniture, and one on linking home decor with runway design will follow in a few days. Hope you enjoy reading both.
Stay inspired!
Linda

Keep it modern. Bertoia barstools are mixed with modern materials, fixtures, and big doses of white to achieve a fresh look. desire to inspire

What's the easiest way to create a unique, stylish home that doesn't look like the page of a catalog? Vintage furniture, of course! Not only do vintage pieces bring a sense of history to a space, but purchasing existing furniture (re-using) is also a green practice. Bonus!
A few things to keep in mind when incorporating vintage pieces:
1. Don't go overboard. Meaning, don't purchase all retro furniture from the 1960's...the point isn't to go back in time.
2. Don't be afraid to mix it up! Throw in some vintage pieces with new upholstery and modern materials.
3. Create a focal point by using one statement piece.
4. Check the quality and authenticity of pieces before purchasing. Look for manufacturer marks, solid joints, and graceful curves. Avoid unstable and creaky pieces (unless you want a project).

Mixing two Bertoia Diamond lounge chairs with eclectic furnishings creates a timeless, bohemian style by Fitzgerald Studio
This is by no means the last time you'll be reading about the fusion of classic with modern decor. Timeless Decor is all about fusing different elements of timeless style afterall. There'll be more articles as the store expands to include classic furniture that has been updated to fit the 21st century. I hope you are as excited about that as I am!
